Nurse Cathy keeps her mum’s Light up a Life tradition shining

Nurse Cathy, our Outpatient Care Lead, invites you to remember loved ones this Christmas while continuing a family tradition that began more than 20 years ago.

Cathy Browning’s mum, Brenda Morris, helped organise our first Light up a Life service more than 20 years ago. Since Brenda died in 2023, Cathy has dedicated a light in her memory.

Now Cathy, our Outpatient Care Lead, is inviting others to dedicate a light to someone special.

A tradition close to Cathy’s heart

“Light up a Life has always held a special place in my family’s heart,” Cathy says.

“Mum organised our first service and helped local families come together to remember and celebrate loved ones for many years.

“Dedicating a light to Mum helps me remember the love we shared and the difference she made to so many people.”

Mum loved helping people and never let anything hold her back.
Her connection with the hospice shaped my life too. I feel privileged to continue the work that first brought me here more than 20 years ago.

Remember someone special this Christmas

Anyone can take part in Light up a Life. The person you remember doesn’t need to have received care from our hospice.

When you dedicate a light, we’ll send you a commemorative card. You can also add your loved one’s name to our Book of Lights and share a photo and message on our Virtual Tree.

Your donation will help us provide free care and support for local people living with an incurable illness and those closest to them.

Join us at St Mary’s Church

Our Light up a Life service will take place at St Mary’s Church, Stafford, at 5 pm on Saturday, 12 December. We’re holding it at the church this year while building work continues at the hospice.

The service is open to people of all faiths and none. You’ll be able to see the names in the Book of Lights and join us for the illumination of the remembrance tree.

“Although we’re gathering in a different place this year, Light up a Life remains a chance for everyone to come together, reflect and remember,” says Lyndsey Howard, our Community and Events Fundraiser.

Thank you to KGL Estates for sponsoring this year’s appeal.
