Our care helps Kathleen’s garden grow
Thanks to support from our caring Hospice at Home Team, Kathleen can enjoy precious time tending her allotment, which is a vital part of her wellbeing.
Expert care for Adrian
As her husband’s main carer, Kathleen receives support from our team during the day and overnight. Our trained professionals sit with husband Adrian, offering expert care, comfort and emotional support, while Kathleen gets much-needed rest or attends to important daily tasks.
Precious time for herself
Our regular care visits also give her the freedom to visit her nearby allotment, just a short walk from home. Here she can take a breath, recharge, and enjoy some time to herself.
“Even though it’s hard work, I love it,” she says. “I feel all my tension drain away as I walk up the hill.”
For the past 11 years, Kathleen has cared for her allotment alongside her best friend Diana, whose plot is right next door. Both are dedicated growers, and Kathleen also maintains a large garden at home, where she cultivates an impressive array of fruits and vegetables.
Along with the pear, damson and apple trees in her garden, and two greenhouses bursting with tomatoes, Kathleen also grows courgettes, cucumbers, beetroot and more on the allotment.
Wellbeing support
Together, Kathleen and Diana enjoy friendship, tea and biscuits outdoors, and the refreshing countryside air that brings a sense of calm and freedom.
Our visits also give Kathleen time to attend appointments, visit the hairdresser and enjoy a coffee with her daughters. Weekly night sits provide vital respite, allowing her to sleep peacefully, knowing Adrian is safe.
As a charity, we rely on donations to provide this expert, compassionate care at home for families like Kathleen’s every single day.
