Community unites for Walk to Remember

Hundreds of people joined us for Walk to Remember on Saturday, 13 September at the stunning Shugborough Estate. The atmosphere was full of warmth and energy, making it a fantastic finale to our charity’s 35th anniversary year.

Now in its second year, the event welcomed supporters of all ages and abilities to walk in memory of loved ones and celebrate their lives. Families, friends, colleagues and community groups walked together, proudly wearing event T-shirts with the names of those they were remembering.

Staff from across the hospice also took part, walking in memory of the patients they’ve cared for and their own loved ones.

Supporters of all ages joined us

Such a meaningful day

“It’s incredibly personal for us,” said Hospice at Home Care Coordinator Angela Chalmers. “We remember the people we’ve looked after, and it means so much to walk alongside families doing the same.”

Nurse Clare Cooper who also joined the walk added: “It was a lovely way to remember my father, and walk for my patients, it was emotional, but also really positive.”

What our supporters say

Terry Croxall was walking in memory of his wife Barbara, who was cared for by our hospice.

“I may be 80, but I’m still fit and active. I used to take part in the cycle ride to help raise funds, and now I’m walking in memory of my wife, Barbara, who was so well cared for by the hospice. It’s a beautiful way to remember her.”

Zoe Williams was walking in memory of her Aunty Deb.

“The hospice and the nurses have done so much for me—I truly can’t thank them enough for the support they’ve given. I’m walking in memory of my Aunty Deb. She was a lovely lady, like a second mum to me, and that’s how I’ll always remember her for her loveliness. I was even able to celebrate my 40th birthday at the hospice with her, which made it all the more special.”

Thank you

The event was organised by the hospice’s fundraising team, with support from dedicated volunteers and local partners.

“It’s such a powerful day full of connection and shared memories” said Events Fundraiser, Lyndsey Howard.

“It’s so much more than a fundraiser. And I’m so proud of everyone who made it happen.

We couldn’t have done it without our sponsors, Millar Sandy Commercial Property Services, as well as the National Trust Team at Shugborough, Traction Equipment Services, UK Medical & Event Services, Paul Milgate Scarrott Photography, Vibe 1, our compere Paul Dean and our incredible volunteers.

Events like Walk to Remember help raise vital funds so our hospice can continue providing free, compassionate care for people in Stafford and surrounding areas who are living with an incurable illness.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us end our 35th year on such a high.
