For our Supporter Care Officer Carla, Walk to Remember is an opportunity to honour three very special people. She’ll be walking alongside ten close friends to remember her Mum, Cherryl, and her friends Kate and Alan, while raising vital funds for our charity.
“When I join Walk to Remember, I’ll be walking for three very special people who remain a huge part of my life: my Mum, Cherryl Poppitt, my friend Kate Johnson, and my friend Alan Davies.
“All three were taken far too soon, and all three are deeply missed. Having my friends by my side makes the day even more meaningful, as they all knew Mum, Kate and Alan too.
“Mum was the landlady of the Titanic public house, the Royal Exchange in Stone, and a passionate fundraiser herself. She was fun, loving and incredibly social, always going above and beyond to help others. She truly was a one-in-a-million Mum.
“Mum spent her final weeks in a hospice, where the kindness and compassion shown to her and our family will stay with us forever.
“Kate, a nurse herself, spent her final days at Katharine House Hospice. One of our last memories together was a cheese and wine night arranged by the nurses, complete with Take That, one of her favourite bands. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
“Alan was a wonderful dad, loving husband and close friend. He leaves behind his wife Charlotte and their four boys, as well as so many happy memories.
“I’m incredibly proud to now work as a Supporter Care Officer for the hospice and give something back to a place that has meant so much to my family and friends.
“On the day, Mum, Kate and Alan will be with us every step of the way. I know they would be incredibly proud.”
Walk to Remember takes place on Saturday, 26 September at Shugborough Estate. The accessible route is suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, dogs are welcome and parking is free.
