Kind hearted care worker steps up for hospice

Care Coordinator Ange Chalmers has been going above and beyond our charity.

Over the last decade, she’s taken on some of the UK’s toughest trails, including two ascents of Snowdon and the Yorkshire Three Peaks, all to raise vital funds.

In total, she’s covered over 100,000 steps to support local people in need of hospice care.

Now she’s inviting others to join Walk to Remember, the hospice’s family friendly 5k memory walk, which takes place at Shugborough in September.

Ange took part in Walk to Remember in 2024 with coworkers from the charity’s Hospice at Home Team and is excited to return this year.

The team provide compassionate care at home for people living with incurable illnesses or nearing end of life.

A terrific event

“We went as a group last year,” she told us, “and saw families of those we’d cared for walking together. The atmosphere was brilliant.

“It was a proud moment to be there representing the charity.

“Seeing hundreds of people walking together showed us just how important the hospice is to so many local people. They were walking for loved ones and giving back so others can access the specialist care their relatives received.”

Everyone welcome

Although Ange trained hard for many of her walking challenges, she says Walk to Remember is ideal for walkers at any level.

She explained: “Walk to Remember is a lovely event to be part of, there’s such a strong sense of togetherness. The step free paths make it easy for everyone – including young children, older adults, and wheelchair users. And the Shugborough countryside is beautiful. It’s a wonderful way to remember someone special.”

Walk to Remember takes place on Saturday, 13 September, 5.30 pm at Shugborough Estate.
