The 5k walk brought hundreds of people together to share memories and take time to reflect. It also raised vital funds to support our patients and their families.
Among those taking part were members of Julze’s family. Julze received care and support from our charity earlier this year.
Our staff helped Julze and his family take part in our recent Firewalk event, creating a special moment in his last days for them to share together.
Julze’s mother-in-law, Janet Dale, told us: “The care, compassion and support meant so much to Julze and to all of us. Katharine House Hospice is a place of peace, calm and caring, and the staff are wonderful.
“The work they do is extremely important and makes such a huge difference.”
Remembering Julze.
Also joining Walk to Remember was Tracey Cristini, who was walking with her daughter Alice in memory of her best friend, Gillian Owen.
Tracey said: “Gillian was supported for some time by the Outpatient Team, and when she needed end of life care, the hospice was where she wanted to be. They were amazing. It means so much to us to be able to come together and take part in an event like this in her memory.”
For Marie, the walk was also a chance to remember someone special. She took part in memory of her mum, and said: “More than 10 years after Mum received care from the hospice, I still remember the difference that support made. It gave Mum and Dad precious time together and helped them create special memories, both at home and at the hospice.
“Even the smallest acts of care meant so much. I’ll never forget how happy the hand massages made her.
“Mum loved walking at Shugborough, so returning here felt like a fitting way to take time out to remember her and say thank you to the hospice that cared for her so well.”

Before setting off on the 5k route, walkers were invited to make personal dedications to their loved ones on a special display and join together for a moment of reflection.
Volunteers and staff also took part, many walking in memory of patients they have cared for, as well as their own loved ones.
Hospice Lead Nurse, Carina Lowe, who joined the walk with her family said:
“Seeing people walking side by side, remembering those who mean so much to them, was incredibly moving. There was a real sense of togetherness throughout the day, and it was a beautiful reminder of the strength and kindness within our local community.
“We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us, raised vital funds and helped make the day so special. We’d also like to thank our sponsor, ORJ Law, for their support”
