“I was wrong about hospice care.”

Val lives with complex conditions including type 2 respiratory failure, but thanks to our care, she’s found strength and comfort.

“When I first came in, I thought a hospice was only for end-of-life care,” Val admits.

“Then Dr Jess explained I could be coming here for a very long time. That really put my mind at ease.”

From that moment, Val discovered the breadth of support our charity offers – far beyond what she imagined. At our Therapy & Wellbeing Centre, she’s enjoyed complementary therapies like calming hand massages, joined our six-week Wellbeing Programme, and received counselling to help manage symptoms and stress.

“My hands don’t work quite as they used to, but the staff help me cope,” she says. “The relaxation sessions are soothing. I try to continue at home, but it’s hard. Here, it’s the most relaxing place to be, especially when the future feels uncertain.”

Val’s husband, David, feels the difference too saying, “The staff are fantastic – kind, helpful, reassuring. It’s almost like a family. Everyone is so welcoming.”

Our free hospice care starts at diagnosis, offering 24/7 guidance for people with incurable conditions and their families. Through specialist clinics, tailored programmes and therapies, we help people live well for as long as possible.
