Alan’s busier than ever thanks to our care
Since Lorraine Ramsay found out about our Therapy & Wellbeing Centre she’s never looked back.
As the main carer for her dad, Alan, it was a great relief to discover the expert care and support we offer.
Our Therapy & Wellbeing Centre provides a warm and welcoming space for people living with an incurable illness, and their loved ones.
With social spaces, beautiful gardens and new clinical rooms we provide a range of outpatient services to help people manage their condition and live a better quality of life.
Expert care and wellbeing support
Lorraine told us: “As soon as I found out, I phoned up straightaway. Dad’s been coming to seated yoga and tai chi for four months now. He loves it.”
Alan had been very active for many years, enjoying yoga and Pilates. He also played golf four times a week and swam twice.
Lorraine continued: “He was hardly ever at home. Then all of a sudden, nothing. He was just sitting at home all day with his eyes closed.
“I was desperate to find activities for him. We were going out for coffee one day, and Marks and Spencer’s the next. I was taking him to Sainsbury’s for something to do.”
Building friendships
“He joined the exercise classes and was then invited to the Men’s Group. It’s the best thing ever. They talk and play cards and games. Recently, they’ve been playing seven-card rummy, which is what he’d be doing down the pub with his mates. It’s fabulous.
“A weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Before, it was me on my own with the challenge of caring and finding activities. But the hospice has given us something we can both look forward to. And the staff are amazing, so caring and worth their weight in gold.”

Support for families and carers
Now Alan has lots to look forward to each week with regular activities and new friendships. It’s made a big difference—not just for him, but for his daughter too. Lorraine no longer feels the pressure of finding activities for him and is able to concentrate more on her own wellbeing.
She told us: “Now Dad’s got a full diary, he’s so busy he doesn’t have time to come shopping with me anymore!
“I’ve even started coming to the carers’ relaxation with Rosie. It’s amazing. I didn’t even realise the hospice was here, and now it means so much to us.”
