Taking our care closer to the community

30 March 2026 | View all news

We’re taking some of our Therapy & Wellbeing services out into the community after Easter.

This means more patients can access our support closer to home.

The move will also free up space at our hospice for patients who need on-site appointments and specialist care.

More people able to take part

Our popular Standing Tai Chi group will be the first to move. With high demand and a current waiting list, this change will allow more people to attend, take part and benefit.

Sessions will take place at Baswich Community Hall, with a planned start after Easter.

David Fletcher, our Director of Care said: “We’re shaping our care around people, making it easier for them to access support in ways that work for them.

“By taking some of our services into the community, we can reach more people, reduce waiting times, and help patients feel more connected.

“At the same time, it allows us to create more space at the hospice for those who need specialist care on site.”

What else is changing

Over time, we expect to move other suitable group activities and events into the community.

This is likely to include some drop-in sessions, such as coffee mornings, giving more people the chance to come along, meet others and feel part of a supportive community.

How to attend

  • Tai Chi and other bookable sessions can be arranged through our Therapy & Wellbeing Centre, as usual.
  • Drop-in sessions will continue to run in the same way.

Looking ahead

Delivering more services in the community, means we can support more people, in more places, in ways that feel right for them.

Our staff and volunteers will continue to support these sessions, and we look forward to welcoming more people as services grow.
