“Teddy is one in a million.”

Eight-year-old Teddy Hill spent January running a mile every day to raise funds for our charity, in memory of his great-grandad, Duncan Macleod.

Inspired by our care

Teddy set himself the challenge after seeing the care and compassion Duncan and other family members received from us. Throughout the month, he ran whatever the weather, facing cold, dark mornings, snow and rain, and he didn’t miss a single mile.

Despite the toughest days, Teddy loved the challenge.

Friends and family joined him on his daily runs, including his best friend Bart, uncle Leigh, cousin Cal, and other relatives. He persuaded his Nanny and Grandad to pull on their running shoes and was thrilled when his headteacher and deputy head from Flash Ley Community Primary School joined him for a run.

Teddy said: “I decided to run a mile every day in January to raise money for Katharine House Hospice, in memory of my great-grandad. We all loved him so much and miss him every day. The hospice really cared for him and supported my nanny a lot while she looked after him.”

Rain or shine, Teddy never missed a mile

Mum Zoe said: “Teddy really does inspire me with his commitment and resilience. No matter the weather, no matter how tired he was, he got it done.”

Teddy originally set out to raise £200 but finished January having raised an incredible £3,071.

Zoe added: “We are so proud of our boy. Despite the hardest days, he’s told me he didn’t want it to end.

“Having our family and friends wanting to run with him and support him was honestly the best. I’m bursting with pride. He is one in a million.”

Thanks to Teddy’s determination, and the generosity of everyone who supported him, more families like his will continue to receive the care and support they need when it matters most.
