Ten-year-old Carter completes triathlon challenge in memory of grandad  

Carter took on swimming, cycling and running challenges to raise funds for our hospice after seeing the support his grandad, David and family received.  

David was supported by our Outpatients Team, attending the Therapy & Wellbeing Centre for wellbeing support and guidance to help manage a long-term condition.  

For Carter’s family, our hospice became a place of comfort and reassurance during a difficult time.  

Inspired to give back  

Inspired by the difference we made to his family, Carter wanted to do something special to give back and help other families receive the same care.  

Carter’s challenge included swimming, cycling and running. He completed the triathlon in just 15 minutes and 14 seconds, finishing in the top 20 out of 300 children in his category.  

Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and supporters, Carter raised an incredible £680 for our charity. 

A keen sports fan, Carter was determined to make his grandad proud while making a difference for others.  

“Carter is a very active and caring young boy with a big heart and an even bigger desire to help others,” said his mum, Chloe. “He is always looking for ways to support people around him and is happiest when he can make a positive difference.”  

Making a difference for other families  

Sadly, David passed away unexpectedly in February. Carter and his grandad shared a special bond, with many happy memories built around their shared love of sport.  

“The hospice was a place where my dad felt happy, comfortable and relaxed,” said Chloe. “Carter wanted to give something back so other families can benefit as we did.”  

“He wanted to do something meaningful in his grandad’s memory that would have made him proud,” Chloe added.  

Support that continues  

Since losing David, Carter’s family has continued to receive care and support from our charity, including bereavement support for his grandmother  Glenis.  

“The care and compassion from the hospice have made such a difference to our family,” said Chloe. “Knowing that they are there gives me enormous reassurance.”  

Carter’s amazing fundraising will help ensure other local people can access the same compassion, expertise and support that meant so much to his own family.
