1st - 7th June is Volunteers' Week, a national campaign to celebrate the work that millions of volunteers do throughout the country.

Here at Katharine House Hospice, we have almost 650 volunteers. Without them, we would simply be unable to offer the services that we do to patients and families across mid-Staffordshire.

From retail to admin, gardening and patient care, our volunteers have given a whopping 81,434 hours of support during 2016/17 and we cannot thank them enough for all that they do.

Bob, a volunteer in our fundraising department said "When I retired from full-time employment I still wanted to maintain contact with a working organisation. This was so that I could stay involved in the community, meet new people and maintaing social/work skills but without the pressures of full-time employment."

He continues "joining Katharine House Hospice as a volunteer has allowed me to do this for just a few hours per week. I have been able to continue with my driving, computer and office skills in a friendly environment. It has now become part of my retirement well-being."

Long-Standing Achievements...

At our recent volunteers’ evening thank you evening, we celebrated the achievement of 78 of our longstanding volunteers, including 5 volunteers who reached their 25 year milestone of voluntary service this year. This is an incredible achievement and we are so thankful to them.

How many miles?!...

A staggering 56,420 miles of patient transport were provided by volunteer drivers using their own vehicles during 2016. In addition to this, our volunteer drivers also covered 15,626 miles using the hospice's minibus.

In total, this is the equivalent distance of almost 3 times the circumference of the earth - incredible!

The kindness of our volunteers across all aspects of the hospice has meant that more patients and families have been able to access our services throughout 2016/17. We couldn't do it without them and cannot thank them enough for all that they do.

Get involved...

We are so thankful to each and every one of our incredible volunteers; Katharine House Hospice quite simply would not be where it is today without the input, time and passion of our remarkable volunteers past, present and hopefully of the future.
