A Staffordian through and through, I was born, the eldest of seven children, in this town where my very large extended family have lived for generations.
I joined Evans and Evans in 1961 as an articled pupil and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1966. I became a partner in Evans and Evans but in 1996 I started a new surveying practice under the name of Millar Sandy specialising in commercial property.
Although my business life has been based in the County Town my practice covered the whole of Staffordshire, East Shropshire and down to the edge of the West Midlands so I have been very happy to be able to use my professional experience to help Katharine House Hospice to expand its retail operation across this geographical area which I know so well.
My first wife died of cancer in 1981 at the age of thirty five and my father and several uncles also died of cancer, most of them before Katharine House was founded.
Having encountered terminal illness at such close quarters I was delighted to be invited to become a trustee of Katharine House Hospice and to have the opportunity to make a contribution to its work.
I sit on the income generation committee and I am a board member of KHH Retail Ltd. I consider it a great privilege to be part of what many people think of as ‘Stafford’s Favourite Charity’
I have been married to Judy for twenty five years and we have six children and thirteen grandchildren between us.
