Every year, hundreds of local students, from primary school through to sixth form take part in exciting fundraising activities to help raise funds for the hospice. From non-uniform days to crazy hair days, their enthusiasm, ingenuity and creativity is a huge support to us!
If you would like to fundraise at your school or college, call our Community Fundraiser on 01785 270808.
It is with the support of our local community that we can continue to provide care. From holding quizzes, coffee mornings and bake sales to shaving heads or sitting in a bath of beans, we are always amazed by what people do to raise funds for us!
Why does fundraising matter?
The hospice provides free of charge services and support to patients and their families; last year the hospice supported 1096 patients and their families.
It costs £3million pa to run the hospice and over 75% of this needs to be delivered by fundraising – it’s good to know that £0.87 in every pound raised is spent directly on patients and their families.
Without the generosity of volunteers and donors the hospice would not be able to offer the service that it is currently providing across mid Staffordshire.
How much time will it take?
All of us lead busy lives and have ongoing commitments so anything you do as a support group needs to be built around and fit in with the individual commitments the group has.
We would suggest you aim to run 1 event in your first year then review how it went for all members of the group before looking at the second year. The group may decide that running 1 event is enough going forward too.
How many people do you need form a support group?
Groups vary in size from anything from 2 people to over a dozen.
What type of events can you organise?
You most probably will have ideas of your own but should you wish we have lots of ideas we can share with you including Beetle Drives, Murder Mystery Evenings, Open Gardens, Sponsored Slim, Fashion Evenings and lots more really anything that works well for the group and of course is legal!
What support will I get?
You will be supported by our community fundraiser who will meet with you and the members of your group to help you start the group off. The Katharine House fundraising team will share ideas for fundraising activities you may want to consider and help you with producing artwork for any event you decide to run and of course you will be able to share information and ideas with other groups who support Katharine House. Of course the community fundraiser is always only a phone call away.
If you or your group are interested in supporting the hospice and would like to host an event in your local community, please get in touch by calling 01785 270808; we would love to hear about what you are doing and how we can help!
