Monthly giving

Can you donate £7 a month to help people who need end of life care and support?

Many people breathe a big sigh of relief when they meet a member of our team and start receiving our care.

Families often say they wish they had received our help a long time ago. We wish that too.

Could you help us to make that wish come true?

How Your Kindness Helps

“I’m proud to announce our new Therapy & Wellbeing Centre and service launched in May 2023, with the vision of helping more families who need our care.

“For our patients, this means they maintain their independence, are in control of their condition and can access the services they will help them whenever they need to.

“We would not be able to provide the care without you. And we want to carry on helping as many families that need our support and for the community to know we are there to help if they need us.”

How We Help

As Catherine said: “Katharine House Hospice would not be able to provide the care we do without you.”

So, here is what your generosity and support has given our community.

Caring for almost 35 years

Our services and what we do to help families continue to grow and develop. We have more professionals and experts on hand, a better doctor and consultant service, and we are more able to help more patients when they need us.

Our expert team

We have an amazing team providing exceptional and compassionate care made up of: doctors, palliative nurse specialists, healthcare assistants, lymphoedema specialists, complementary therapists, physio and occupational therapists, counsellors, spiritual care and family support workers.

Holistic care

It’s not all clinical and managing pain and sickness. We help people live better quality lives within the constraints of their illness. A huge part of our day is providing emotional and psychological support. And creating laughter, making memories and focussing on living.

Care for everyone who needs it

We support families and loved ones and we are there from day one.

Bringing people together

We are really good at bringing people together and getting people talking. Some people don’t like worrying their loved ones, so to talk to, listen and swap advice and tips with someone going through a similar thing and to know you are not alone is priceless. We provide that safe place, a place to laugh and live, or a quiet space for solace.

Will you enable our care teams to support more local people every year?

A letter from Catherine Browning, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Outpatient Care Lead here at Katharine House Hospice.

I joined Katharine House Hospice as a young staff nurse 20 years ago in 2003, having previously worked in hospitals in acute medical wards and elderly care.

I love that working for a charity means I can take time to care, go the extra mile and make a big difference every day. At Katharine House Hospice, we give the precious gift of taking time to care and be with families and give them the support they desperately need.

In 2012 I moved from the ward to Day Therapies, and a year later I became the service manager.

In my role I have often been asked what I would change if I could. I have always wanted to help more local families who need us.

I am so proud to announce that our new Therapy and Wellbeing Centre and service will launch in May 2023, with the vision of helping more families who need our care.

This follows extensive consultation with the community, where feedback showed a need for a more flexible service that provided quick and easy access to specialist end of life care services.

To better suit our community’s needs, we have adapted our services and completely renovated an old building into a more inviting space. We now have a new self-serve café and social area open to all and with access to our stunning, therapeutic gardens. We can also deliver our service at home virtually to suit people’s needs, and our counselling and emotional support for patients and family members continues to be there for as long as people need it.

We will be able to help more people in our community more quickly. Previously, patients would come for the whole day, access specialist services, have lunch and take part in activities such as crafts. This meant that we could only accommodate up to 12 patients a day.

Now, in time, we have the potential to care for 60 people a day. We will provide a bespoke assessment to identify the best help quicker and patients can book a one-off appointment at a time to suit them, making the services much more flexible. For our patients this means they maintain their independence, are in control of managing their condition and can access the services that will help them whenever they need to.

Katharine House Hospice would not be able to provide the care we do without you. Our community and team enable us to continue providing care for free. And we want to carry on helping as many families that need our support and for the community to know we are there to help them if they need us.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this update, I hope that you will become part of My Katharine House.
