Sponsor a Nurse...
Please sponsor a nurse at Katharine House Hospice
Will you help me to care for local people and their families?

A vital local free service
Katharine House Hospice offers free care to local people with progressive illnesses and free support for their families. The Hospice relies upon the kindness and generosity of the local community to help generate the majority of the £2.3m per year needed to run its range of vital services
You can make a difference
Just £11.75 will help nurses like me to provide one hour of care - we can

accomplish a lot within an hour to enable our patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible. 100% of what you give goes to Katharine House and every penny will make a real difference to people’s lives...
Like all nurses at the Hospice, I find it a real privilege to build up relationships with patients and those close to them and to be allowed into their lives. We rely almost entirely on donations to do this - thanks to the support of people like you.

Katharine House Hospice makes all the difference to my life
That is why I am asking you to sponsor a nurse.
My name is Marilyn Heathcote, and I am 63. In 2000 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have a partial mastectomy. In 2004 my cancer returned and I had a further lumpectomy. I found out last year that the cancer had spread to my liver.
My family lives overseas, but my husband Geoff has been a marvellous support to me. Nevertheless, I felt frightened, isolated and quite alone, that is when someone suggested I speak to Katharine House Hospice.
I had mixed feelings about visiting Katharine House; surely I thought it would be a gloomy place, after all Hospices are places where people go to die aren’t they? I didn’t know what to expect. I visited the hospice on a Thursday ‘drop in’ day and I have never looked back.
I don’t feel alone anymore, it’s like being part of a family…
The support I receive is tremendous, the nursing team is unbelievable – nothing at all is too much trouble for them and for the first time in a long while I don’t feel alone, I am amongst friends that are sharing this difficult experience. I look forward to my visits to Katharine House – the nurses have all the time in the world for me, they talk to me, make me feel secure, help me to relax with painting and crafts, answer any doubts or fears. The nurses treat me as an individual not a medical condition, they give me the strength to carry on – their care has changed my life.
Your support is vital…
The Hospice care I receive is provided free of charge – but its value is priceless. I’m writing to you to ask you to sponsor a nurse to help the hospice to continue to provide this care. I wanted to write this letter as my way of giving something back.
The Hospice cannot survive without the generosity of local people. Its costs £11.75 to sponsor a nurse and 100% of your donation will provide nursing care. Whatever you can give will make a difference to people like me who rely on the vital support.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, I do hope you can help.
With Best Wishes
Marilyn
